I first discovered photography as an art form in the early 70’s. I had a passion for driving around Humboldt and shooting pictures of old barns. During the 70’s Humboldt County had some amazing barns that, alas, aren’t still standing. I have been shooting everything and anything ever since.
Digital Photography and computer tools opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me. I love being able to ‘revisit’ the image I was first drawn to shoot. The possibilities in Digital Art are endless. I sometimes spend days on one image, throw away the results and start again; other times I am very happy with the original shot like Center Stage, above. I can spend hours working on an image’s texture, hue and saturation, color and contrast until I get the emotional response I am looking for. I am drawn to stitching panoramas, manually, of six to eight images, like Spring on the Eel, above, as it opens a 180 degrees perspective of nature that appeals to me. I am also drawn to surrealistic art as a way of merging many photos I’ve taken to make an artistic statement like the two images above, Stop Global Warming, and Kinetic Grandchamp, 07.
It is such a wonderful experience for me to download my images on my computer, as then the fun begins! I love taking pictures and creating art and, of course, I love the response I get from others when they love a piece of work I do. |
