ARTIST STATEMENT

The horse as imagery is loaded.  It has baggage. Yet, for me this imagery acts as a conduit, a reflection, or a meeting, which filters the interactions between the viewer, the world, and myself.  The pain, uncertainty, and frustrations of the world are transmitted to us through confused and interrupted means.  Ceramic abstractions of horses and elements of the still life act as stand-ins for my divided and conflicted reactions to this information.  Through a dissection of space, the paintings become self-portraits by proxy.
