ARTIST STATEMENT

Traditional fantasy nowadays is like stale moldy cheese stuck in the back of some refrigerator.   Riddled full of clichés and done-to-death stereotypes.  My imagery doesn’t involve typical monsters and sword-and-sorcery types you’d find out of Tolkein or Brothers Grim.  Unlike the quest-involved protagonists of these popular tales and imagery, my characters are likely to be sassy and have a chip on their shoulder.  Instead of being like larger-than-life, demi-gods, my characters posses plenty of mortal attributes as well as faults.  They bicker and fight (sometimes over real mundane matters), do irresponsible and sometimes embarrassing things, filch each other stuff, and when it comes to confronting great peril, they are often seen running in the opposite direction.

As for my artistic technique, I like using realistic colors and textures one finds in nature.  I don’t like the bright, syrupy colors of Walt Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons—too artificial and tacky.
