YOUTH ART CAMP AT THE MORRIS GRAVES MUSEUM OF ART

Foster a life-long appreciation of the arts by actively involving youth with the exhibitions at the Morris Graves Museum of Art through hands-on art instruction.


Session I: June 16-20 (Ages 5-6, 9-Noon) (Ages 7-8, 1:30-4:30)
                    & June 23-27 (Ages 9-10, 9-Noon)

Art projects will be inspired by nature and the elements of the natural world. Participants will create soft sculptures combined with found objects, make leaf-print sketchbooks, and acquire drawing & painting skills.


Session II: July 7-11 (Ages 5-6, 9-Noon) (Ages 7-8, 1:30-4:30)
                    & July 28-August 1 (Ages 9-10, 9-Noon) (Ages 11-13, 1:30-4:30)

         Images of Water         

Projects will highlight art inspired by the beauty of water. Participants will create three dimensional fish, explore Japanese wood block prints, and paint and draw thier own images of water.


Session III: August 18-22 (Ages 5-6, 9-Noon) (Ages 7-8, 1:30-4:30)
                    & August 25-29 (Ages 9-10, 9-Noon) (Ages 11-13, 1:30-4:30)

School Lunches: Narratives Participants will create a magic school bus and their own comic book character for a lunchbox design. Projects will encourage young artists to use their imagination to express their school experiences through a variety of mediums.

The Studio School
A visual arts program for youth ages 2-17!

  • The Studio School provides local youth unique opportunities to create art in an authentic studio environment.
  • Affiliation with HSU Reese Bullen Gallery and the Morris Graves Museum of Art allows students access to
    collections and exhibitions.
  • The Studio School offers an exceptional student-teacher ratio.
  • Studio School teachers are experienced art educators and artists.
  • Program participants explore a variety of techniques using real artist materials.

Session II: Apr.1 – May 22
          Level I (ages 6-8) Drawing & Painting  W/Textures & Pattern     $95

LEVEL I (Ages 6-8)  Patterns & Textures  April 3-May 22 (Thursdays) This
class will focus on the exploration of utilizing patterns and textures to
create interesting two-dimensional projects that are age appropriate.
Emphasis on additional Elements of Art (color, shapes, & line) and
Principles of Design (contrast, unity, & balance) will build the students’
artistic vocabulary and fundamental drawing & painting skills.  Media will
include oil & chalk pastels, watercolor & tempera paint.


Level II (ages 9-12) Drawing & Painting  W/Textures & Pattern  $95

LEVEL II (Ages 9-12)  Patterns & Textures April 1-May 20 (Tuesdays) This
class will cover a variety of age appropriate two-dimensional projects
focusing on drawing and painting techniques.  Emphasis on additional
Elements of Art (color, shapes, & line) and the Principles of Design
(contrast, unity,& balance) will build the students’ artistic vocabulary
and fundamental drawing & painting skills.  Media will include graphite &
colored pencils, oil & chalk pastels, watercolor, tempera & acrylic paint.
