The Redwood Jazz Alliance and the Humboldt Arts Council present...

Frank Kimbrough with Noah Preminger
Thursday, February 25, 2010 (8 p.m.)

Frank Kimbrough, piano; Noah Preminger, tenor sax

Kimbrough, whose influences run from Bill Evans to Andrew Hill, is another of our favorite pianists. With bassist Ben Allison, he co-founded the Jazz Composers Collective and the Herbie Nichols Project, and he holds down keyboard duties for the Maria Schneider Orchestra, among other jobs. He'll appear with one of the wunderkinds of the New York jazz scene, tenor saxophonist Noah Preminger, whose album "Dry Bridge Road" was named best debut of 2008 by everyone from Slate to the Village Voice.

"Kimbrough belongs to an elite group of pianist-composers able to dream in many odd colors and time signatures, leaving curious designs - and brighter moods - in their wake." —Gene Seymour, NY Newsday

"Preminger seems to have arrived on the scene fully-formed, with incisive musical instincts, a distinctive personal sound, and an ability to write great tunes." —David Wayne, Jazz Review
